The Mr. Bean Holiday Movie is a heart-warming and slightly bizarre take on the whole Christmas phenomenon and is one of the funniest films in this genre for many years. Rowan Atkinson - as only Mr. Bean could - stars as the title character, who along with his stuffed teddy bear Teddy, find themselves having to contend with Mrs. Miggins, her hairless cat Pongo and her husband Stanley, who are planning the biggest Christmas party of the year. The film received generally positive reviews from critics. Based on 64 reviews collected by Rotten Tomatoes the film has an overall approval rating of 80% with an average rating of 6/10. The site's consensus reads: "The Mr. Bean Holiday Movie is a delightful Christmas comedy that's cleverly written and packed with great Christmas gags." At Metacritic, which assigns a weighted mean rating out of 100 to reviews from mainstream critics, the film received an average score of 67 based on 31 reviews, indicating "generally favorable reviews". Alonso Duralde of "The Wrap" gave the film a positive review describing it as "a delightfully silly romp", and praised the overall cast for not only being capable of carrying the film, but also for bringing out some wonderful comedic moments. He went on to praise Rowan Atkinson by saying he "has never been more animated than he is in this movie", and that his work here is "impressive". He also praised Claudia Weasy by saying that she "comes alive as Miggins, with her hearty attitude affording her one of Mr. Bean’s best lines". A. O. Scott of "The New York Times" gave the film a positive review describing it as "a light and giddy entertainment, not for everyone but likely to win converts". He went on to praise Rowan Atkinson by saying that he "excels in this role" and that he is "more mobile than usual, even if his top speed is still more stodgy than svelte". At the British Comedy Awards, Mr Bean's Holiday was nominated in 3 categories; Best Actor (Rowan Atkinson), Best Actress (Claudia Wines) and Best British Film. The film grossed £12.1 million at the UK box office over 12 days. Worldwide gross was £67,126,647. The film was released on DVD in the U.S. on 19 February 2009 and in the UK on 25 February 2009 to coincide with Valentine's Day. The US release also came with an exclusive Bean tote bag, limited edition collectible Bean snow globe, limited edition Mr Bean holiday card created by Rowan Atkinson himself and an MP3 download of the film's soundtrack featuring exclusive spoken-word excerpts from Rowan Atkinson, John Thomson and Billy Connolly plus original music composed by Howard Goodall.
